Loggi - Hard To Carry On Jungle EP

Loggi returns once more with a final EP from the "Back to the Jungle" LP, with 2 of the most heavyweight female vocal tunes of 1995! Taking us back to the days when jungle was fresh on the soundsystems (Vinyl only!) across London, Bristol, and Birmingham to Manchester and beyond!! Both here on one single! With up to date remixes from label mates D-Region & Code and Fireteam.

First up! "Hard To Carry On" (Formerly "Now That Your Gone") demonstrates the lightness of the touch in 90s jungle with plenty of space to breath. A minimal touch is applied in anything above sub bass and it's on this subterranean plane that the real party takes place on these tracks, with a focus on drums and churning bass. With a seminal vocal of biblical proportions from Viveen Wray that can't fail to entrance any sailor onto the rocks of oblivion! This is the track, back in 95' that got Loggi from the jungle label SOUR a major deal with London Records for the above album which never saw the light of day!! Pete Tong made it his Record of the Week on Radio 1, also featured on the legendary Jungle Mania 3 Gold disc selling comp.

Loggi - Back To The Jungle

'Back to the Jungle' opens with 'Surrender Your Love', setting the mood with stuttering snares and hi-hats, alongside a strong vocal hook from Viveen Wray before flowing into ‘I Don’t Mind (When You Look That Way)' – a track full of choppy, reverb-heavy broken beats underpinning the voice of Elisabeth Troy. My Life lifts things up with classic rave string-effect pads and piano stabs over another well crafted jungle beat.

Hard To Carry On, Shine Your Love On Me and Come and Rescue Me all demonstrate the lightness of touch in 90s jungle with plenty of space to breath. A minimal touch is applied in anything above sub bass and it is on this subterranean plane that the real party takes place on these tracks, with a focus on drums and churning basslines.

Loggi - Where's The Love Gone EP

To coincide with Emotif's 20th anniversary year we are proud to present 'Where's The Love Gone', EP lead single to the album "Back To The Jungle". Produced by Loggi, back in 1995, for Emotif's parent jungle label, SOUR. SOUR released "I Don't Mind" featuring Elisabeth Troy and "Loggi's Life" featuring Viveen Wray as a single in 1995 and 4 other tracks appeared on various SOUR compilations worldwide, SOUR Cream, Junglism, Jungle Fever and the legendary Jungle Mania compilations, before the Album was licensed to London Records for a tidy sum. London records then sent Viveen and Loggi into the deepest darkest depth of the music industry jungle and till this day never released any of the music. Many blue moons later, Loggi managed to find the Bongo Natty river and made his escape back to reality to tell the tale.

Various Artists - F the B EP

Emotif Recordings delivers 'F The B EP', including tracks from jungle legends Ray Keith and Aphrodite and current label favourites D-Region & Code.

As pioneers of drum and bass from the earliest days, London-based EMOTIF are proud to revisit their roots. Kicking things off is Ray Keith's I Am Who I Am Because Of You, a dub-influenced track flecked with dancehall sound effects and a jungle bass line that hints at the kind of work this artist is most famous for. The vocal samples and the intro, however, give a tantalising insight into what Ray is capable of producing these days. We progress with Aphrodite's remix of Backdraft's grimey hiphop track Wanna Do feat. Sporty O and Spenda C: another blend of an old master with a fresh sound. 90s legend Aphrodite needs no introduction and his remix of this bass laced trap anthem is a choppy jungle number guaranteed to get people moving.

Push Play

A load of top names from the world of beats and bass music are donating a track each to a double-CD compilation album in support of a leukaemia charity. The comp has been inspired by the untimely passing of Sonia Akow, a DJ, label A&R and PR associate who was immersed in the scene until she died a year ago.

Sonia was diagnosed with leukaemia in November 2012, and a plea was put out for a bone marrow donor. The beats and bass scene united to stage a benefit gig in March 2013, raising nearly £15,000 for various leukaemia charities, but sadly Sonia lost her fight for life on July 3rd 2013. Many of those involved worked with Sonia during her time promoting underground music in the industry over the past 15 years. All proceeds from the comp go to the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT). The compilation album follows a benefit gig in south London last month, with many of the same artists appearing, plus names like Maxi Jazz from Faithless.

Smokesta feat. Julie Gordon - You Ain't Ready

Smokesta's new release is a big one and features the vocal talents of Julie Gordon on two of the tracks, including the title track, "You Ain't Ready". Julie Gordon, known from her previous work with The Happy Mondays and her solo work with the Digital Orchestra adds a nice bit of soul to Smokesta's in-your-face breaks style.

The title track of this release, "You Ain't Ready", is a jump-around hands-in-the-air tune. Sticking to a great rhythm and chugging bassline, the track is developed by some brilliant production and vocals with some very dub laser sounds and clever use of filtering.

Lead track 'Horizons' opens with a soaring sax line and ambient loveliness over a steppy break. Enter a airy vocal before the drop, with dives deep with furious bass energy whilst keep the vibe cool and spacious.

'Baktun' begins with a bit more menace. Metallic pads and dark vocal cut open up the track before the drop, then the pads morph into a huge heaving bass tone that wavers and pulsates over the sparse drums and percussion. An absolute beast!

Smokesta: Back In It & Kongotized

First up on the newly relaunched Emotif label is a massive single from a rising star of the drum n bass scene known simply as Smokesta. As a DJ, he has been present on the scene for a number of years, playing regularly on stations such Kool Fm as well as at various Drum & Bass raves across the capital. Now that his debut EP is ready to drop on Emotif recordings, surely his time as a producer has also now arrived...

First up on the ep is a track entitled 'Put Your Back In It' which is poised to become one of the biggest anthems the drum n bass scene has witnessed in recent years. It's rousing vocal works like to a call to arms and almost seems to demand your presence on the dance-floor. Pair that with it's half-time intro of subtle reggae stabs and old skool rave chords and it's not long before you're totally hooked. Once the raucous stabs, incessant drums and tearing bassline finally arrive, it's a combination that's so irressitable it has already become a firm fixture in many a big name DJ's record box. Early supporters such as Dj SS and Grooverider have been championing the track for months already and it's only a matter of time before the rest of the scene follows suit.
